The Academy of Aphasia: A Twenty-Five Year History by Martha Taylor Sarno
During the 36th Convention of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) in 1960 at the Statler Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, Ronald Tikofsky, Hildred Schuell, Martha Taylor and Joseph Wepman gathered informally in Martha Taylor's hotel room for drinks… It was the group's consensus that a multidisciplinary group needed to be organized… to serve as a forum for the exchange of scientific information about aphasia.
