About

The Academy of Aphasia was founded in 1962, holding its first meeting in Chicago in 1963. From an initial group of 9 charter members, the Academy has grown to include more than 180 members from both clinical and research fields and has attracted significant national and international interest.

I have always been deeply impressed with the potential of the aphasic patient for illuminating our understanding of the relationship between language and 'thought' and the derangement of each.

Russell Myers in a 1962 letter to Ronald Tikofksy who spearheaded the creation of the Academy.
